The protest by nurses who had climbed up an overhead water tank at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, Warangal, on Monday continued on Tuesday. The protesting nurses demand that the state government set a deadline to regularize their services by the evening.
The nurses' agitation continued even as minister for medical education P Sudarshan Reddy assured them that the government would look into their demands.
14 nurses, ho are working on contract basis at MGM Hospital, climbed the water tank on the hospital premises, and threatened to end their lives if the government failed to meet their demands.
Meanwhile Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader Eetela Rajender, on Tuesday, visited the site of the nurses' protest and extended moral support to their agitation. He called for a Warangal district bandh on Wednesday.
Justifying the nurses' demand for regularization of services, the Eetela stated that he would convene a meeting with officals of the department of medical education to sort out the issue.
Sudarshan Reddy assured them that the government would consider their demand for regularization of services during the recruitment which will be conducted for 1,592 nurse posts. He said 176 nurse posts would be regularized from the district. However, not satisfied with minister's assurance, the nurses continued their agitation.
The TRS has decided to observe protests across the district in support of the contract nurses. There are 188 nurses who were appointed on a contract basis in 2007, at MGM Hospitals.
Services in the hospital have been affected, and hapless patients are being forced to head towards private hospitals for treatment.
