Voting for the by-polls in the Avanigadda Assembly constituency in Krishna district began amid elaborate security arrangements, on Wednesday.
However, the by-polls lack the regular enthusiasm, with the major political parties, except TDP, not having fielded their candidates. The ongoing Samaikyandhra agitation too had an impact on the by-polls, which were necessitated by the death of sitting TDP member Ambati Brahmanaiah.
In fact, the major parties did not field their candidates from the seat after the TDP named Brahmanaiah's son Sri Hari Prasad as its candidate.
However, voting became inevitable after two independents entered the fray. The polling, which began at 8am, will continue till 5pm. The counting of votes will take place on August 24. (INN)
