The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has announced that it would soon intensify the statehood agitation.
Addressing a symposium on Mulki Rules at the Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, TRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao said that the party would take the statehood agitation mode to a "Do or Die" level if the Centre fails to announce the formation of a Telangana state at the earliest.
Quoting from the history of the Telangana agitation, he said that the statehood demand was not new, and that several agitations were held since the Mulki Rules of 1952. He said that injustices for the region have been in existence for the last 60 years.
Harish Rao said that as per the Mulki Rules, only 20% non-locals could be employed in the Telangana region. He added that the numbers have gone up in many districts, and that about 42% employees working in Ranga Reddy district are non-locals.
He also accused Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy of cheating the people of Telangana by not fulfilling the promise of constituting a committee to ensure the implementation of GO 610. He said that Kiran Kumar Reddy was following the footsteps of former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who did not implement the GO 610 during his 9-year tenure either.
The TRS leader also welcomed the High Court's verdict on the local body elections. Stating that the TRS was ready to face the elections, he claimed that the party would sweep the polls in the region. He said that the local body elections would be an opportunity to display the gravity of the demand for the formation of a Telangana state. (INN)
