The number of Covid-19 cases continues to see an upward spike in Telangana.
According to a bulletin released by the medical and health department today, on Thursday, March 18, the state's medical officials conducted 62,972 corona tests till 8:00 pm, and 313 persons tested positive. 43 new cases were found within the residents of Hyderabad's GHMC area. This has pushed up the number of active cases to 2,434 (as of this morning). 943 affected people are currently under home isolation. The bulletin also reported the deaths of two people, and 142 recoveries.
On Wednesday as well a high 278 cases were reported.
The state's educational institutions seem to have been badly affected by what looks like the second wave of the pandemic. On Thursday, a concerning 86 cases were registered in institutions across Telangana - 35 students of Bhainsa's Jyotirao Phule Gurukul, and 22 students, 12 teachers, the warden and the watchman of an ST boys hostel in Rajendranagar, in Hyderabad have contracted the SARS-CoV-2.
Besides these cases, two students of the Rajendranagar Government School, 13 students from a school in Kamareddy district, three students of the IIIT-H in Hyderabad's Gachibowli, ten inmates of an ST girls hostel in Kagaznagar, seven students and one teacher of a Zilla Parishad school in Mancherial, three teachers of the Sircilla Zilla Parishad High School, one employee of the Karimnagar DEO office, and two students of the Chinna Golconda Zilla Parishad High School tested positive, as well.
As a result of this unabated spike in Covid-19 cases, the Telangana government has directed the officials to be alert regarding travellers coming from Maharashtra, which has also been badly hit by a virulent resurgent wave of the pandemic.
The health officials have been asked to conduct 2,000 tests every day at the mandals sharing borders with other states. And ten mobile vehicles have been deployed for this.
Apart from this, the
Telangana High Court has directed the state government to take strong steps to contain the further spread of the virus.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan have also addressed the startling spurt in cases.
