Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday hoisted the national flag at Gandhi Bhavan on the occasion of the 70th Republic Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy launched a scathing attack on the state and central governments saying that the two of them had destroyed all the democratic institutions built 70 years ago in the country during the last five years of their rules, with doubts being cast against even the Supreme Court, the RBI and the Election Commission of India.
Claiming that the Congress had built all the institutions and that they had kept India intact, just and peaceful all these years, the TPCC chief said that there was an urgent need today to protect all those institutions.
Commenting on the defeat of the party in the recent Assembly elections, Reddy said that there were several reasons for it, and that defeats did not cow down the party, and that the party would continue to work for the welfare of the people. He exhorted the party workers to get ready for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state, and predicted a landslide for the Congress in those elections.
The Republic Day function was attended by party MLA D Sridhar Babu, MLC P Sudhakar Reddy and TPCC Sevadal chief Janardhan Reddy among other leaders.
The Telangana TDP too celebrated Republic Day, at the party headquarters NTR Bhavan. Party president L Ramana hoisted the national flag on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Ramana greeted the people of the state and the country on the occasion of the Republic Day. Commenting on the recent elections, Ramana said it was unfortunate that allegations of EVM tampering were doing the rounds in the country. The party's politburo member Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy claimed that the needs of the people were not being met although the Constitution had been amended 124 times so far.
