State Sanctions Rs 10 Crore For Bonalu Celebrations

The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the Bonalu festival celebrations in Hyderabad, up from Rs 4 crore last year.
Hyderabad | 7th July 2017
The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the Bonalu festival celebrations in Hyderabad.

This was announced at a meeting by Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and GHMC Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin.

Reddy, who is also the convener of Bonalu festival celebrations, said that funds would be given to celebrate the festival to 2,179 temples in the city.

He asked the cooperators to send proposals for the funds.

Last year, the state government had allotted Rs 4 crore for the purpose. But Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who was keen on preserving Telangana culture and traditions, had this year agreed to increase the funds for the festival, he said.

Mayor Rammohan said that all necessary arrangements had been made for the faithful to have a hassle-free darshan of the goddesses during the festival at all major temples in the city.
