T Lawyers Urge Police To Join Strike
Telangana lawyers visited police stations in Hyderabad, presented roses to police personnel from Telangana, and appealed to them to join the their strike.
The Telangana Lawyers Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Saturday urged the police personnel to join the proposed general strike from August 17 to push for a separate Telangana state.
The appeal by the lawyers comes at a time when the state government is engaged in talks with various employee union leaders, approaching them to reconsider their decision for going on a mass strike.
The TLJAC members visited police stations in Hyderabad, presented roses to police personnel from Telangana, and appealed to them to join the strike and express solidarity with the people.
The government appears to be adopting a 'carrot-and-stick' policy, as can be gauged by its threat of invoking the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA).
The talks with the Telangana Employees JAC consequently failed on Friday, as the TEJAC boycotted the meeting with the Group of Ministers alleging dual standards of the state government. The TEJAC has demanded the withdrawal of the ESMA and security forces from the region as a precondition for the talks. (INN)
