The Telangana Girijana Vidyarthi Sangham and the Lambada Hakkula Porata Samithi came together on Wednesday demanding that the Telangana government increase the ST reservation to 12% in the education and employment sectors.
Leaders of the two organizations contended that since the state government had the powers to increase the reservation in proportion to their population, the state cabinet should take a decision, and issue orders in this regard.
They also demanded that a GO be issued declaring Girijan thandas as gram panchayats, constituting a Thanda Development Board, and granting Rs 10,000 crores for it.
Their other demands included stopping excise raids on the Lambada thandas in the name of illicit liquor, and withdrawing the cases filed in this regard; construction of Banjara Bhavans in all districts; and setting up of a Girijan university.
