Telangana Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on Friday appealed to the State's farmers not to resort to agitations over the issue of loan waivers.
Speaking to media persons after holding a review meeting with the officials at the State Secretariat here, Pocharam said that the farmers need not worry about the implementation of the promise of waiving off farm loans below Rs. 1 lakh. He said that the government would implement the promise in letter and in spirit.
He said that the TRS government has just assumed the charge, and all details have been sought from the bankers on the issue.
Pocharam said that the officials had been directed to ensure proper supply of fertilizers and seeds to the farmers for the Kharif season. He said that district-wise targets had also been fixed for the officials, and district-level meetings on the farmers' issues would be held on June 13.
He said that the government would also promote the horticulture sector on a large scale. (INN)
