Led by Leaders Of Opposition K Jana Reddy and Mohammed Ali Shabbir, a team of Telangana Congress leaders participated in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections campaign spearheaded by All India Congress Committee (AICC) Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.
Besides Reddy and Shabbir Ali, the delegation also comprised of senior leaders Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, D Sridhar Babu, Maheshwar Reddy and others.
This tour holds significance as the Telangana Congress recently laid plans to start a massive campaign demanding that the Telangana government waive off all farmer loans, and expressed desire to invite the AICC Vice-President.
The team participated in meetings addressed by Rahul Gandhi at the Muzaffarnagar, Shamli and Saharanpur districts of UP. Besides attending rallies, they also accompanied the AICC Vice-President to 'Khat Sabhas' organized in several villages across UP.
Speaking to the media along with his team and Rahul Gandhi, Shabbir Ali said, "Rahul Gandhi personally visited the circuit house in Saharanpur where we were staying. He sought our feedback on the campaign and also inquired whether any one of us participated in the UP election campaigns held in the past. To this, I replied that I was in charge of three districts in UP in the previous elections. He also sought suggestions to make the on going campaign more effective."
Shabbir Ali also said that his Party leaders had briefed the AICC Vice-President about the status quo in Telangana.
"We briefed him about the failures of the TRS-led government, especially in dealing with the ongoing agrarian crisis in the Telangana. He expressed his shock when we said that our government extended no assistance to farmers who lost four crops due to the consecutive droughts and floods in the State," he said.
Rahul Gandhi expressed his desire to tour both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and interact with the farmers affected due to floods and government policies. Praising the 'Rythu Sabha' that was held in the Adilabad district recently, the Gandhi scion said that such programs would instill confidence among farmers who were suffering due to continued negligence by both the Centre and the States.
Later, the Telangana Congress accompanied Rahul Gandhi to Darul-ul-Uloom Deoband where he was accorded a traditional welcome. He met the heads of both Old and New Darul-ul-Uloom, and also interacted with the students.
