Even More Power Cuts
Consumers in Hyderabad may experience erratic supply of power from 6pm to 6am from Saturday onwards, in addition to the existing scheduled 2-hour power cuts.
Power consumers will have to face another round of unscheduled power cuts due to further shortage of supply.
As against the demand of 259 million units (MU) on Friday, the supply affected was 249 MU, resulting in a deficit of 10 MU. Following the deficit, consumers in Hyderabad may experience erratic supply of power from 6pm to 6am from Saturday onwards, in addition to the existing scheduled 2-hour power cuts.
According to officials, Kerala has backed out to effect supply of 300 MW power, and Ramagundam Thermal Power Station suffered a fall of 600 MW.
It is learnt that a total of 900 MW of electricity is being purchased. Similarly, one lakh metric tonnes of coal supply is being procured from Mahanadi and Western Coal fields.
Supply from the power grid (0.8 MU), Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan (9.1 MU) has been effected.
However, despite all these arrangements, the government is unable to match the gap between demand and supply, and is therefore being forced to impose periodical blackouts.
The state government has also reduced the supply of power to farmers, from 7 to 6 hours, due to the shortage. (INN)
