Criticizing the lack of clarity on the Assembly session's agenda, BRS legislators led by Harish Rao walked out of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting in protest, saying that the BAC was not meant for casual discussions over tea and biscuits.
The walkout was triggered by the government's alleged failure to specify the duration of the Assembly session or its agenda.
The BRS strongly demanded a discussion on the Lagacherla farmers' issue in the upcoming session, saying that the serious farmers' issue was being ignored. They called for prioritizing this matter in the Assembly proceedings.
The BRS also asserted that it was customary to allocate one day for the government's agenda and another for the Opposition, a practice they accused the Congress of not following. The party demanded that the Assembly prioritize this issue and adhere to BAC decisions.
The BRS objected to the Chief Minister's claim that the BAC only held advisory powers, and said that Assembly proceedings needed to align with the BAC decisions. It also called for the immediate formation of House Committees to ensure transparency.
The BRS also criticized the Speaker's alleged unilateral decision on the PAC Committee, and said that its opinions were not considered.
Regarding alleged violations of the MLAs' protocol, the Speaker assured the BRS that such incidents would be prevented in the future.
The BRS strongly opposed the introduction of bills in the Assembly without prior discussion in the BAC, and also criticized adjourning Assembly sessions for trivial reasons such as birthdays or weddings.
The party also raised objections to Bhatti Vikramarka's statement outside the Assembly about providing Rs 12,000 to tenant farmers, and asked why such announcements were made without Assembly discussion.
The BRS then demanded that a "Zero Hour" be allotted daily for important discussions and debates, and requested speaking time proportional to its representation in the Assembly.
The BRS leaders were also outraged at being stopped for wearing T-shirts as a form of protest. "When Rahul Gandhi is allowed to enter Parliament in a T-shirt, why are we being stopped here?" they asked.
