A young homeless man sleeping on a pavement was crushed to death by a car in Kushaiguda on Sunday midnight.
According to the police, 26-year-old Ashok was fast asleep on the pavement when a speeding Skoda being driven by a girl careened onto the pavement killing him on the spot.
Four girls, all engineering students, were stated to be returning to their homes in the car after a party in A S Rao Nagar. The car was being driven by Ishanya Reddy, who the police said was not drunk. Of the three other girls, one was drunk. Another girl, Harshika Reddy, is stated to be daughter of an Inspector of Police in the Malakpet Police Station.
While the police claimed that the mishap was due to rash and negligent driving, local residents who witnessed the incident alleged that all the girls were drunk and should be booked under the relevant law. The residents also alleged that the parents of the girls were moving heaven and earth to protect their daughters.
