The 2nd day of the Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) annual meet Mahanadu proceeded smoothly, with several leaders addressing various issues on its stage.
TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu asked those gathered to refrain from erecting placards or cutouts of his son, and possible successor as TDP President, Lokesh.
This request of Naidu follows the observation made by some politicos that while Lokesh's pictures lined the route to the Mahanadu, the face of Jr. NTR was scarcely visible. In an attempt to stem any burst of the ongoing succession war within the TDP, wherein Naidu is trying to promote Lokesh as the next party chief and Harikrishna is reportedly trying to draw Jr. NTR into the race for power.
Moving on, Yerram Naidu passionately declared that the state would develop only if the allegedly corrupt Congress government was hurled into the Bay of Bengal. He charged that the Congress was ignoring the welfare of the people and that the ruling party was as good as dead as it was not taking any action to improve the condition of the state.
Heavy police security was arranged for the Mahanadu, as the TDP had anticipated trouble from Telangana activists who had declared that they would disrupt the annual event. However, only one incident of irate Osmania University (OU) activists having attempted to wreck havoc on Friday has thus far been reported.
