The Supreme Court, on Monday, rejected the bail petition of suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, an accused in illegal mining case of the Obulapuram Mining Company (which is owned by former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy).
The apex court, while rejecting the bail petition, directed Srilakshmi to appeal in the CBI Special Court.
The court observed that it could not take any decision at this stage as the CBI has filed a charge-sheet against Srilakshmi in the case.
The apex court also directed the CBI Special Court to take into consideration the High Court's orders before sanctioning bail to Srilakshmi.
Though Srilakshmi's counsel contended that Section 409 (criminal breach of trust) does not apply to her, and that she can be released as she had been in judicial remand for more than 60 days, the CBI opposed the plea.
The CBI has been opposing the bail petition on the grounds that it was yet to complete its investigation, and filed a charge-sheet against the IAS officer last month. (INN)
