Hyderabad Commissioner of Police A K Khan on Thursday announced a slew of measures to control the rising crime rate in the city.
Khan said that special squads would be deployed near banks, liquor shops and pubs. He said that the pattern of incidents indicates that these 3 kinds of places have witnessed a rise in criminal activities. The top cop revealed that cases would be booked against those consuming alcohol at public places or near wine shops.
He also said that incidents of chain snatching are on the rise, and that the police have taken stern measures to check chain snatching and intensified patrolling.
Khan said that though intensified patrolling has made some impact, the offenders are still striking with impunity. The safety of women walking on the streets is at stake thanks to chain-snatchers, and there has been a sudden spurt in such cases in the last 3 months, he said.
The police chief urged women to be alert and cover their gold jewellery especially when walking alone in desolate and poorly-lit areas. He called for the public's cooperation to fight this crime.
Khan also said the police would set up a cyber police station in the city to check cyber crimes.
