Not paying attention to the demands for the
postponing of the municipal elections to be held in Warangal, Khammam and five other municipalities tomorrow, Telangana's State Election Commissioner C Parthasarathi today yet again confirmed that the polling for the same would be held as per schedule, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm tomorrow.
Speaking on the issue, the election body official said, "We have made every necessary arrangement to conduct the elections safely and fairly. We have coordinated with the relevant government departments to ensure that all safety norms are met in the organisation of the same. So, the ULB elections will be conducted tomorrow as per the original schedule."
"We have taken all the steps to sanitise the polling stations. Voters and officials will both be made to wear masks and maintain adequate distance during the polling. Elections for the Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations, and for five municipalities, including Nakrekal, Siddipet, Jadcherla, Achampet and Kothur, will be conducted in adherence with all the Covid-19 safety guidelines," he reiterated.
Reports say that the SEC has set up 1,532 polling stations and that adequate security measures have already been taken to ensure fair elections.
In spite of much criticism from various quarters regarding the organisation of the local body elections in the midst of the pandemic, the SEC chief consistently maintained that the elections, in which 11,26,221 voters would be exercising their franchise, would
not be postponed.
