The Governing Council of the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) will constitute a search committee for selection to the post of Director of NIMS, as the term of appointment of the present Director D Prasada Rao will come to an end on September 29.
The search committee will be headed by Minister for Medical Education Sudarshan Reddy, Shantaram and NTR University of Health Sciences Vice Chancellor I V Rao.
The decision to constitute a search Committee was taken at the 13th meeting held at the Chief Minister's Camp Office on Tuesday, where Rosaiah met the with NIMS Governing Council.
Dr. Prasada Rao explained to the Chief Minister various aspects of the functioning of the NIMS and the Academic Programs.
It was also decided to appoint an expert committee of eminent persons to come to a decision about the running of the NIMS University campus in 161 acres of land allotted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh at Rangapur Village (Bibinagar Mandal, Nalgonda District), the construction of which is almost completed.
According to sources, plans for the road network, storm water drains, parking, and flooring have almost been completed, as have the framework for the electrical substation and the sump. The Expert Committee will study the issue in detail and submit a report to the government soon, is it learnt.
The meeting also discussed various courses including Nursing, Para medical and hospital management courses, and PG Diploma and Ph.D Courses being offered by NIMS, as well as the functioning of the NIMS Hospital and its developmental activities.
The meeting also reviewed issues like the operationalisation of Pradhan Mantri Swastya Suraksha Yojaana (PMSSY) blocks.
Minister for Medical Education Sudarshan Reddy, Special Chief Secretary (Health) J Satyanarayana, Director of NIMS Dr. D Prasada Rao, Special Chief Secretary (Finance) G Sudhir, Members of the Governing Council and other officials attended the meeting.
