Civil Supplies and Legislative Affairs minister D Sridhar Babu, on Sunday, flagged off a "Save Hussainsagar Lake" Walk from Sanjeevaiah Park, on Necklace Road.
Talking to media persons after inaugurating the walk, which was organized under the aegis of the Indian Army and 92.7 Big FM, Sridhar Babu said that it is every citizen's responsibility to protect the Hussain Sagar lake from pollution.
Pointing out the Hussain Sagar is the city's main water body and a major tourist attraction, the minister said that the rising pollution in the lake is threatening the environment in Hyderabad.
Sridhar Babu said that the lake was polluted mostly due to the immersion of idols made of toxic materials, and the dumping of industrial and domestic wastes.
He lauded the Indian Army and Big FM for organising the program, and expressed confidence that these initiatives would yield results in the long run.
Film actors Manchu Manoj Kumar and Manchu Lakshmi Prasanna also took part in the walk, which proceeded from Sanjeevaiah Park to the Sailing Club, on Necklace Road. (INN)
