The City Police on Saturday announced a reward of Rs. 10 lakhs for those who give information regarding the Dilsukhngar twin bomb blasts.
Addressing a press conference here, City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma informed that the case was being investigated by six teams of Special Investigation Team headed by Sandeep Shandilya. Refusing to divulge specific information about the investigation, he said that the police have some concrete leads which are being explored.
Anurag Sharma said that ammonium nitrate, IEDs and timers were used in the bomb. He made it clear that no arrests have been made so far.
The Commissioner also dismissed the allegations that the city police did not take the Centre's alert of a possible terror attack seriously. He said that a circular was received on February 15 followed by two more circulars on 19th and 20th. However, he said, special checking was being done in Dilsukhnagar area since November. Disclosing the statistics, he said that the special checks were held 2,125 times in December, over 2,000 times in January and more than 1,000 times in February.
Anurag Sharma said that intense checking was frequently done in four areas - Dilsukhnagar, Abids, Ranigunj and Begum Bazar, while strict vigil was maintained by the City Police, intelligence agencies and Octopus. Regarding CCTV cameras, he said that of 303 cameras installed in the city, 23 were non-functional while 15 were in dead condition. He also clarified that the CC cameras which were being referred by the media were primarily meant for traffic supervision.
The Commissioner also clarified that as of now, Mirza Abdul Wasey, who got injured in the Dilsukhnagar blast, was not a suspect. It may be mentioned that Wasey was among those injured in a bomb blast at Mecca Masjid in 2007.
Anurag Sharma said that the City Police would conduct a special drive to create awareness among the people about the safety measures. Further, the bomb detection squads too would be increased from 16 to 30. (INN)
