Telangana DGP M Mahender Reddy today said that the police had collected Rs 31 crore in fines from all those who had violated the mask-wearing rule in the state during the ongoing lockdown.
He also said that where 3,39,412 people had been booked for not wearing masks in public places, 98 cases had been booked against those who were found to be black-marketing Covid-10 medicines. The DGP presented these details in a report before the Telangana High Court.
In the report, the DGP said that they had booked 3,39,412 cases against those not wearing masks in public places, and that 22,560 cases were booked against those who had been found to be violating social distancing norms.
Further, the report also stated that the police were taking all the necessary steps for the prevention of the spread of the coronavirus in Telangana, for the prevention of the black-marketing of Covid-19 medication, and to implement strictly the current lockdown. In this regard, a total of 4,31,823 cases had been booked against those violating any Covid-19 safety guidelines between May 1 and May 14.
However, the HC wanted still more details regarding the implementation of the lockdown, and asked the state government to submit a detailed report on the same.
It also asked the state government to furnish information about the ongoing vaccination drive in Telangana, and advised the KCR government to tie up with NGOs in order to administer the vaccine to the elderly and the poor.
The HC heard the report and issued the aforementioned orders while dealing with a batch of petitions filed on the status of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state. Commissioners of Police of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda also appeared before the court during today's hearing.
