In a bid to safeguard government lands across Andhra Pradesh, the state government has initiated a policy, and an all-party meeting will be convened in the next 15 days to discuss threadbare the modalities before the finalisation of a Draft Policy Bill.
All premium and valuable government land will be protected, preferably with full-fledged compound walls, ensuring unsocial elements do not lay their hands on them.
The current decision of the N Kiran Kumar Reddy government comes at a time when land sharks are on a rampage. Valuable lands are grabbed or occupied at the slightest chance, irrespective of who owns them.
It may be mentioned that during former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's governance, precious lands worth crores of rupees were allotted to big business houses.
The state High Court has also ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a full length enquiry into the alleged land scams by the former CM's son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who has allegedly amassed illegal wealth.
In the wake of such land dealings, which have led to a heavy loss to the state exchequer, the Kiran Kumar Reddy government's decision to save government land has come as a shot in the arm for the treasury.
The Minister informed that the Advocate General would be consulted on lands which are under dispute.
Specifically, lands in Warangal and Guntur districts came under the government study, and a report on the allotment of lands will be prepared and submitted to the Chief Minister shortly. (INN)
