Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed confidence that the Polavaram project would be complete in the next four years with the help of the central government.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Pattiseema lift irrigation project on Sunday, Naidu said that all the hurdles were being cleared to complete the Polavaram project in a phased manner.
He said that the Pattiseema project would also be completed within a year, and that it was aimed at tapping nearly 3,000 TMC of the surplus Godavari river waters which were now flowing into the sea.
He said the surplus waters would be diverted to the Krishna river for supply to the delta region of Krishna and Godavari, and the backward Rayalaseema.
Naidu assured that every acre of land in the West Godavari district would get water for irrigation, and that the entire Godavari and Krishna delta would be turned into a drought-free region.
The Chief Minister also informed that there was a proposal to set up a marine university in the West Godavari district.
He also spoke of the difficulties being faced by the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh after the bifurcation of the united state. (INN)
