A first-year engineering student was attacked by her spurned lover on Tuesday because she had refused to have a physical relationship with him. The accused is reported to have bitten the victim's hand before fleeing from the spot.
The victim is identified as Shweta, a student at the Christu Jyoti Institute Of Technology And Science in the Jangaon mandal of the Warangal district, and the accused has been identified as Dilip, a student of pharmacy.
The profusely bleeding girl, who had sustained grievous injuries during the attack, was shifted to the nearest hospital by a lecturer who spotted her writhing in pain.
The police has taken the accused person in custody, and is investigating the case further.
