Congress MLC P Venkat Rao on Tuesday asked people to reject the leaders who have defected from their parent parties for political gains.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress Legislature Party, Venkat Rao said that the entire political system in the state looks corrupt with several MLAs and leaders indulging in opportunist politics. He said that irrespective of the party they belong to, MLAs should stay with the party on whose ticket they got elected till their term gets over. He said that some MLAs were disrespecting the sentiments of their voters by joining other parties. Therefore, he said, the voters, who are now being considered as slaves, should teach the defectors a fitting lesson in the next elections.
Venkat Rao said that those leaving the Congress party were nothing but "betrayers". He said that such MLAs and leaders should explain the reasons to the people before defecting to other parties. He advocated the need to promote morality in the politics said that the parties should have strong anti-defection rules. (INN)
