All appeals made by the Speaker for the parties to return to their respective seats were drowned in a resounding din of their own making.
As was expected, the monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly began on a stormy note on Monday. Following the pandemonium caused by opposition parties, the very first day came to an abrupt end.
The Telugu Desam Party members entered the House holding lanterns as a symbol of State Government's failure to tide over power crisis. Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLAs made their entry holding placards of Jai Telangana. And the YSR Congress members ensured noticeability with placards about the fee reimbursement issue and farmers' problems.
As soon as the House met, the opposition parties' MLAs gave adjournment motions on different issues. While D Narendra Kumar of TDP gave an adjournment motion on power crisis, Dharmana Krishna of YSRC and Akbaruddin Owaisi of MIM wanted a discussion on the fee reimbursement issue, the TRS floor leader Etala Rajender and E Lakshminarayana of BJP demanded the resolution of the Telangana statehood issue, and Nagam Janardhan Reddy (independent), G Mallesh (CPI) and Lakshminarayana (BJP) wanted the State to officially celebrate the Hyderabad Liberation Day, all of which the speaker Nadendla Manohar disallowed.
However, the members of opposition parties continued to shout slogans and demanded that the House discuss the issues raised by them. While the TDP MLAs gathered on the left side of the Speaker's podium, the TRS members captured the right side, with the YSR Congress members gathering in the front. The BJP, CPI and CPM members too joined the slogan shouting while standing on their respective seats. The appeals made by the Speaker for all the parties to return to their respective seats, so they could start the regular listed business of the House, were drowned in the resounding din.
After about eight minutes, the House was adjourned till 10 AM. However, the uproar continued even after the House was reassembled. Meanwhile, the Speaker postponed the Question Hour, and asked for a circulation of the statement on the energy crisis instead. He appealed to the opposition members to cooperate while they take up a short discussion on the power issue. However, his appeals failed to convince the opposition parties forcing him to adjourn the House again for half-an-hour.
There was no change in the mood or the approach of the opposition parties when the House reassembled again at about 10.40 am. Sensing no signs of change, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day till Tuesday.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress party floor leader YS Vijayamma has been allotted a seat on the front row in the House. (INN)
