Referring to the recent Mallanna Sagar protests, TRS leader and Telangana Planning Commission Vice-Chairman Niranjan Reddy accused the Opposition of hindering the development of the State.
Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Reddy attacked the Opposition for making a needless hue and cry over the Mallanna Sagar project.
"They are hell bent on stalling any sort of developmental works in the State if they get some mileage from all of it," he said.
He also alleged that while farmers were consciously handing over their lands to the government for the project, the Opposition was trying to instigate them against the government.
"The Opposition is trying to confuse and spread paranoia among the farmers. They (Opposition) have no clue about the project or its merits," he fulminated.
Citing the fervour with which the previous governments completed irrigation and development projects in the Andhra region, he accused them of prejudice against the Telangana region.
He also singled out Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy, accusing him of corrupting developmental projects and maligning the Chief Minister for selfish purposes. How can a person who did not even take part in Telangana's fight for statehood now claim that his heart bled for its farmers, Niranjan Reddy asked.
Reddy stated that the State government had already clarified that it would fairly compensate and rehabilitate the displaced under the State government's GO 123. He asked the Opposition to therefore realize its "folly", and keep away from the farmers and their lives.
