Telangana official representative in the national capital S Venugopala Chary today said that Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had promised to set aside for now the decision to close down Gough Road in the Secunderabad Cantonment area.
Talking to mediapersons after a meeting with Parrikar, Chary stated that the union minister had promised to postpone the closing down of the road by six months.
"Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao asked me to meet Parrikar and appeal to him against the closure of Gough Road in Secunderabad Cantonment area. Parrikar responded positively to my plea," he said.
"During our meeting, I apprised Parrikar about the Metro Rail works, the growing traffic problems and the greater number of vehicles which all demand more roads and higher usage of existing roads. Since the closure of the Gough Road would only add to the woes of the motorists in the twin cities, we urged the Defence Minister to take the amicable decision of postponing it," he added.
