Leopard Attack In Anantapur

Villagers have warned their children not to venture out of their homes unless accompanied by an adult.
Hyderabad | 19th September 2010
People in Pulikallu village of Kalyanadurga mandal in Anantapur district are taking special precautions to protect their children and livestock after a calf became the prey of a leopard in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to sources, the leopard strayed into the vicinity of the village and killed a calf. This has made the villagers warn their children not to venture out of their homes unless accompanied by an adult.

The villagers, who largely depend on livestock as a means of livelihood, immediately lodged a complaint with the Forest Department, seeking action.

Forest Department officials then formed special teams to catch the leopard and ensure that it does not harm humans, particularly children.

Earlier leopard attacks saw a total of about 72 sheep in the Singanamala area end up as prey.
