The Land Acquisition Amendment Bill passed in the Telangana Assembly during the winter session is reportedly awaiting President Pranab Mukherjee's approval.
Interacting with the media at Assembly lobbies during lunch break, the Irrigation and Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao said that the Telangana government had already forwarded the Bill for the President's authorization.
Rao exuded confidence that the President would give his assent once the Bill reached him.
"We do hope that the President will give his approval for the land acquisition bill and enable the State to take up developmental projects in various sectors such as railways, irrigation, industries, housing and others which need the land," he said. He added that the Bill would prove handy in spurring the growth rate of the State.
Rao flayed the Opposition parties for allegedly creating hurdles to the Bill's passing. The Mallanna Sagar and other projects were stiffly opposed by the Congress, TDP and also the Left. We have succeeded in our efforts to overcome the problem, Harish said. He ridiculed the Opposition for filing court cases and raising objections to development works.
As per reports, the Centre now has to take a call after it passes through Legal, Home and other departments for clearance. The Bill would reach the President after Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives a green signal.
