The much-awaited Bayyaram Steel Plant in Telangana is likely to be taken up soon with the Centre mulling options.
Telangana IT & Industries Minister K Taraka Rama Rao, who is in the national capital for a few days, on Monday called upon Union Steel Minister Chowdhary Birendra Singh and urged him to take a call on setting up the plant.
After a discussion on the issue that was mentioned in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, Singh assured KTR that he would take a decision in the near future. A Task Force Committee constituted in this regard would submit a report in 10 to 15 days, he informed KTR. Upon receiving the report a review meeting would take place, and the Centre would then take a decision on the plant, Singh stated.
He also said that he would organize a related meeting in Hyderabad, too, and discuss the matter.
"The previous government had raised some objections on the issue, and we have appointed a committee to settle those," he said.
Later, KTR told the media that the union minister had promised to take a decision very soon on the plant. KTR said that he had urged Singh to consider the Beladela area for the setting up of the plant at Bayyaram.
The Telangana minister said that the steel plant would result in many jobs for the local youth.
