Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who is currently in Delhi on an official trip seeking funds for various developmental projects, today urged the Centre to sanction six new domestic airports for the state.
Reports indicate that the Chief Minister wrote letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri appealing to them to set up the airports, claiming that this was an important step in improving air transport facilities in the state.
The proposed airports are likely to be set up in the Peddapalli, Warangal, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Mahabubnagar districts. The Airports Authority of India has already begun to survey the proposed locations.
Following a promise he had made to the people of Siddipet, his home district, Rao reportedly also raised the issue of setting up an international airport in the region.
It is being said that he assured the Centre that the state government would prioritise the construction of the proposed airports once they were sanctioned, and would not only allot land for them but also provide all the necessary infrastructural support needed for their completion.
KCR has been in Delhi since December 11, and has already met union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah and union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat among others.
As per his itinerary, the CM is also likely to meet union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to seek funds for various developmental programs.
He has reportedly also sought an appointment with PM Modi, but it is being said that the PMO is still to finalise a meeting.
