All-India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Ponguleti Sudhakar on Tuesday stated that the
arrest of Suresh Kalmadi for his alleged involvement in the Commonwealth Games scam and that of former Telecom Minister A Raja for his alleged role in the 2G Spectrum scam, have proved that the Congress is committed to the eradication of corruption.
Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party office, the AICC secretary reiterated that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had ordered a probe into the 2G Spectrum and the Commonwealth Games scams as the Congress wanted to come clean on them. "This shows the party's commitment to rooting out corruption from the country," Sudhakar stated.
Sudhakar condemned the charges made by the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that the Congress had failed to take any action against corruption. He pointed out that not only has the BJP failed to take any action against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged involvement in the 2002 riots, it has actually projected him as a hero.
"What action has the BJP taken against Modi or for that matter Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa who is involved in a land scam?" Sudhakar asked.
Terming the BJP as "Bharat Ka Jhoota Party", the AICC secretary demanded that Modi and Yeddyurappa be removed from their posts in their respective states before the party makes any allegations against the Congress.
"The BJP should first set its own house in order before accusing the Congress of corruption," Sudhakar continued.
The senior leader expressed confidence that the Congress candidates would win in the by-elections for the Kadapa Parliamentary and the Pulivendula Assembly seats.
Earlier, Sudhakar had met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, and had appealed to him to rename the Anantapur district as the "Satya Sai Baba Anantapur" district as a tribute to Sathya Sai Baba
who passed away on Sunday. "The Chief Minister has assured that he will study the demand and then approach the district's ministers in-charge. (INN)
