Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said that the State government was all to set to make a record in Asia by constructing the Kaleshwaram irrigation project by 2017. The project has been undertaken with the aim of supplying water to northern Telangana by December 2017, as per plan.
At a review meeting held at Jal Saudha, attended by top officials and experts, Rao set a deadline of one year for the completion of the project and release waters to crops across Telangana by December 2017. Rao also recalled that the State government had set a target of irrigating one crore acres over the next five years.
Stating that the project was a challenge and that the officials should step up efforts to complete land acquisition on a priority-basis, he said that the works would be recorded on cam through Jala Soudha via the internet. The works would be made online.
Officials have been instructed to call tenders for the Mallanna Sagar project. He reiterated that land would be acquired through fair and just means without causing any harm to livelihood of the oustees.
