Kakatiya University students boycott their PG exams, burn their hall tickets and stage dharnas, demanding that the Telangana bill be introduced in the Parliament.
The police resorted to conducting lathi-charge on protesting students of Kakatiya University on Friday after the agitators refused to disperse and end their massive rally.
The lathi-charge led to a few students receiving minor injuries, further rousing the students. The student leaders then called for a bandh on Saturday to protest against the 'high-handedness' of the police.
The students had earlier taken out a massive rally, demanding the introduction of the Telangana bill during the budget session of the Parliament.
Post-graduate students of the colleges affiliated to Kakatiya University participated in the rally and boycotted the PG exams.
Raising 'Jai Telangana' slogans, the students boycotted the examinations at colleges affiliated to KU.
The students staged a dharna in front of the University Arts College and demanded that the Vice-Chancellor announce the postponement of the examinations, till the centre introduced a Telangana bill in the Parliament.
Tension prevailed on the university campus for some time, and the students entered into heated argument with the police at the examination centres.
Following the arguments, the police lathi-charged the students who tore their hall tickets.
The varsity officials, who had rescheduled the examinations thrice, had decided to conduct the exams from Friday.
The university officials said they had decided to conduct examinations for 25 PG courses and 2 diploma courses including MBA, LLM and LLB courses. Over 22,000 students were scheduled to appear for the examinations.
The students of the Telangana University in Nizamabad also boycotted the examinations, and staged a dharna at an administrative building demanding the introduction of a bill for a separate Telangana state in the Parliament.
