Hundreds of residents of Jawahar Nagar staged a dharna at Indira Park on Tuesday demanding regularisation of their hut dwellings.
Speaking to media persons, Desha Bhakta Praja Santha Udayam President K Raju said that nearly one lakh people belonging to about 35,000 families had been living in small huts at Jawahar Nagar near Shamirpet Road for the last 15 to 20 years. However, most of them had no proof of their residence.
Taking advantage of the same, the local revenue authorities were trying to evacuate them although the state government had called for the regularisation of such dwellings as per GO Ms No 58.
Raju alleged that the revenue authorities had been trying to hand over the land to some corporate houses.
Raju threatened to conduct a gherao at the camp office of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and also the Secretariat if their dwellings were not regularised. (INN)
