YSR Congress Party President and Leader of the Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Y S Jaganmohan Reddy will tour the areas ravaged by Cyclone Hudhud in north coastal Andhra from Tuesday and oversee the relief and rehabilitation works.
He has postponed the October 16 State-wide protest programme owing to the natural calamity.
"Jaganmohan Reddy will leave for Rajahmundry tomorrow and reach Vizag in whatever mode of transport is available, and tour the battered Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. He will stay put there to oversee the relief and rehabilitation works, meet the affected families and help them get faster relief," party senior leader Dharmana Prasada Rao told reporters on Monday.
As Hudhud left a trail of destruction, Reddy called upon his party cadre to connect with the people and help them in getting faster aid.
Farmers, weavers, small and petty business establishments, and other sections have been badly affected as Visakhapatnam has borne the brunt of the cyclone which crossed the port city's coast on Sunday.
The local leaders will organize the tour programme of Reddy from Vizag upwards, and the tour will in no way affect the government's operations, Rao said. On the contrary, Jagan's tour would help the affected people get aid quicker, he said.
When asked if Jagan would meet the Prime Minister who, too, was scheduled to tour the area, Rao said, "It depends on the situation, but our mission is to lend a helping hand to the needy in the cyclone ravaged region."
Due to the cyclonic storm, the proposed programme of the Party protesting the delayed loan waiver by the TDP government stood postponed, he added. (INN)
