In what was
a nail-biting tangle between Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Deccan Chargers (DC), the Chargers clinched victory as DD failed to chase the modest 146-run score in 20 overs at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium in Delhi, its home ground.
Symonds was the leading scorer for the bulls in yesterday's match, with his 54 (30 runs, including 3 fours and 5 sixes) helping Chargers put 145/7 on the board. Delhi fell 11 runs short, as Pragyan Ojha (2-16) and Chaminda Vaas (1-19) didn't concede much in their bowling spells, the former taking out Gambhir in the second ball of his spell.
Attributing the win to team effort, captain Adam Gilchrist termed the victory as "outstanding". The team was on the brink of elimination, positioned precariously at No. 2 from the bottom of the
IPL 2010 points table. A series of 5 consecutive wins, however, saw it sail through into the semi-finals.
With this 11-run win, the Deccan Chargers currently hold the 2nd position in the
IPL 2010 points table, bagging 16 points by winning 8 of 14 matches played. Mumbai Indians lead the table with 20 points from 13 matches, winning 10.
Deccan Chargers (DC), representing the city of Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is led by Adam Gilchrist and coached by Darren Lehmann, both former Australian test and one-day cricketers. Finishing last in the first season of the IPL, DC emerged as the champion in the second season that was held in South Africa in 2009.
Currently, it will face Chennai Super Kings, which it already beat twice this season, in the second semi-final that will be played in Navi Mumbai on Thursday.
