The toppers of the state are being forced to make important calculated decisions once they fall into the bracket of the "topper". Whether SSC, HSC, Inter, EAMCET or the IIT-JEE, those securing ranks within the first 100 are floored with lucrative offers to buy their ranks.
According to sources, 10th standard toppers are paid between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 5 lakhs, while intermediate toppers are bought for around Rs. 7 lakhs.
IIT-JEE toppers, on the other hand, find themselves richer by Rs. 10-20 lakhs at the end of the entrance exams season.
The predicament of IIT-JEE All-India topper I Prudhvi Tej is a case in point. The billboards of upto 6 institutions claim credit for his superior performance in the entrance exam.
It is an annual event, for parents of toppers pick the highest bidder as the institution that is allowed to advertise the ranker as their student, as a result of which the common man does not know the true identity of the college that educated these toppers.
Buying toppers is an investment for educational institutions as the number of students enrolling themselves with a college depends upon the "performance" of the college in the latest round of examinations.
