Indian Journalist Union Secretary-General D Amar on Thursday demanded stern action against the MSOs who had stopped the telecast of 2 Telugu news channels (TV9 and ABN Andhra Jyothi) in Telangana.
Speaking to media persons after making a representation to Union Minster for Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javedkar, Amar said that the decision to ban the two channels was part of a larger conspiracy.
He alleged that Telangana Chief Minster K Chandrasekhar Rao was responsible for the ban on TV9 and ABN.
Amar also condemned KCR's Warangal speech wherein he threatened direct and violent action against media organisations and professionals.
He demanded that the Centre take immediate action to restore the freedom of the press in the new State.
He said that the authorities were free to take action against media organisations if the latter published or air objectionable content. However, imposing a complete ban was illegal and against the democratic norms, he opined.
The IJU leader also appealed to media professionals to act responsibly in performing their duties, and restrain from violating the rules. (INN)
