Telangana Information Technology Minister K Taraka Rama Rao on Thursday announced that measures would be taken to transform Hyderabad into a people-friendly city.
Speaking to media persons at the launch of the Raahagiri project at Haritha Plaza, KTR said that tenders would be for called shortly for the construction of 100 Foot-over-Bridges and 166 Road-over-Bridges.
He asked officials to remove encroachments from footpaths, and ensure separate tracks for pedestrians and cycle-riders.
Informed that the Cyberabad Police was establishing two cycle stations, he also asked the Hyderabad Metro Rail to promote usage of cycles. He said that there were five to six world class heritage buildings that needed to be preserved and protected from vehicular pollution.
GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar assured that the world heritage buildings in the city would be made traffic free and zero pollution zones.
He admitted that pedestrians were facing problems on city roads due to encroachments and lack of footpaths. He said a nearly 125km stretch of roads was being cleared of encroachments in view of the Metropolis Congress.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy informed that the city traffic police wing was adopting new technologies to make the city roads safer. He stressed on the need for creating awareness among the people about traffic dos and donts.
