Hyderabad | 31st October 2016
Reviewing a "habeas corpus" petition filed by Sirisha, wife of Maoist leader G Ramakrishna who went missing during the October 24 AOB Maoist encounter, the Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the Andhra Pradesh Police and government to ensure that no physical harm was done to the allegedly missing fugitive, and ordered them to produce him in court, if at all reports of him being in police custody were true.
After hearing the arguments made by the Counsel for the petitioner, the Court wanted to know whether R K was in police custody or not.
The government counsel declared that he was not aware of the missing Maoist, whereupon the Court directed him to give the same in writing.
The Court reminded the government that any civilian, even a Maoist, deserved the same rights under Constitution. R K might be a militant, but was an Indian citizen in every right, and hence should not be killed in thismanner without approaching the bench first.
The HC postponed the next hearing to Thursday.
