Telangana irrigation minister T Harish Rao on Sunday alleged that the Congress leaders were just lusting for power and not concerned with developmental issues. He also claimed that it was because of the TRS' thirst for development that the state was headed on the path of growth today.
Rao, along with Telangana power minister G Jagadish Reddy, released the left canal waters from the Nagarjuna Sagar project to mark its 63rd foundation day on Sunday.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the occasion, the minister said that the government's aim was to ensure that four lakh acres of land could be irrigated via the Sagar canal, and that works in this direction were going on at a good pace. However, the Congress was levelling false charges and trying to stall these projects, he claimed. He slammed the Congress leaders for moving the courts against the projects in order to provoke the public against the government. However, the public were fully with the government as it was making unrelenting efforts to complete the project, he said.
The project modernization works under the TRS regime had been completed to the extent of 65% while the Congress had completed only 30%, Rao claimed, and added that the remaining 5% of the works would be completed by June 2018.
"The TRS government has completed 65% of the modernization works in just three-and-half years at a cost of Rs 1,265 crores, and we have released the Sagar waters for Yasangi," Rao said, and appreciated the irrigation officials for finishing the works on time. He also directed them to work at the ground level and wrap up the remaining works on time.
Stating that Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya were getting nationwide accolades, Rao said that even other governments were planning to emulate the projects in their respective states.
The ministers also inspected the works at the Udaya Samudram lift scheme, and at the pump house at Brahmana Vellamla in Narketpally mandal. Rao directed the officials to complete the trial run of the Udaya Samudram lift scheme by next January / February, and ready the project by the next Kharif season.
MP Gutha Sukender Reddy, MLA Vemula Veeresham and other officials accompanied the ministers.
