GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said he would conduct surprise inspections on 9 & 10th May, and initiate action if the expected progress was not found.
GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has directed the engineering officials of the Corporation to complete the desilting works by 21st May, much before the onset of monsoon.
The Commissioner held a review meeting with maintenance engineers along with GHMC Chief Engineer T Anjaneyulu in Panwar Hall today.
The Commissioner said that 297 works with regard to desilting of nalas had been sanctioned this year for Rs. 21.21 crores. He directed the officials to speed up the desilting works, and informed that he would be conducting surprise inspections on Friday and Saturday (9 & 10th May), and initiate action against the erring officers if the expected progress was not found.
Kumar directed the removing of the silt after it dried, and carting it within 24 hours. He further informed that the mechanisms utilized such as OSRT (Offset Real Time), GPRS, signatures from local people and weighment at Jawaharnagar dumping yard will not only pave the way for transparency, but also help the officer concerned in future.
The Commissioner directed the Chief Engineer to submit a daily report on desilting.
The Commissioner said that the GHMC had identified 104 stagnation points, and that estimates had been prepared for 57 works with a sanctionedamount of Rs. 4.13 crores.
The Commissioner expressed anger over the engineering officials who had not started the works which were below Rs. 5 lakhs in cost and which were mostly urgent in nature, for which orders had already been given for being taken up on unit rate.
He directed the Chief Engineer to submit the list of stagnation points after duly bifurcating the works into below Rs. 5 lakhs and above Rs. 5 lakhs, by tomorrow afternoon.
He further ordered calling for short tenders for the works which are above Rs. 5 lakhs in cost.
Somesh Kumar informed that 395 habitations were covered under the summer action plan in the GHMC limits with a sanctionedamount of Rs. 8.21 crores. For engaging 134 regular water tankers, a sum of Rs. 6.48 crores had been sanctioned, for engaging 35 additional water tankers a sum of Rs. 0.63 crores had been sanctioned, and for flushing and repairs to borewells, a sum of Rs. 1.10 crores had been sanctioned, he stated.
The Commissioner directed the Corporation's engineering officials to complete the BT patch works within two weeks. The Chief Engineer explained that Rs. 27.53 crores had been sanctioned in 4 phases for the BT patch works, and that works costing Rs. 10.7 crores had been completed.
Somesh Kumar also informed that 422 open spaces had been identified by the Town Planning Department, and in order to protect them from encroachments, anamount of Rs. 41.82 crores had been sanctioned. The Commissioner directed the engineering officials to take up the construction of compound walls on a priority basis.
The Commissioner directed the Additional Commissioner (Information Technology) to classify all the sanctioned works under the heads Desilting of Nalas, Water Stagnation Points, Summer Action Plan, BT Patch Works and Compound Walls For Open Spaces on the GHMC website, for transparency and accountability of the works taken up.
