The MIM has named 7 candidates for the elections for the GHMC's 15-member Standing Committee. It has thus left 8 other seats for its ally, the Congress.
Amid talks of its possible tie-up with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Telangana, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has made it clear that it won't break its alliance with the Congress party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
The MIM on Sunday named 7 candidates for the elections for the GHMC's 15-member Standing Committee.
By naming just 7 candidates, the MIM has left 8 other seats for its ally, the Congress party.
This will ensure that the MIM-Congress combine continues its control over the Standing Committee for the 5th consecutive year.
The GHMC's 5-year term will complete by this year's end.
Of the 150 divisions in the GHMC, the Congress has 54 corporators, the MIM has 42, the TDP has 46, the BJP has 5, there are 3 independents and 1 MBT corporator.
By continuing their alliance, the MIM-Congress combine can keep the TDP and BJP out of the Standing Committee.
