Five suspected terrorists, who were being taken to a court from their jail, were killed in an encounter with the police on Tuesday morning.
The encounter took place on the National Highway between Alair of the Nalgonda district and Pemburthi of the Warangal district.
Those killed included Viqaruddin Ahmed, who was accused of killing at least two police personnel, one in Hyderabad in 2009 and another in Maninagar of Gujarat.
Viqaruddin was also the founder of a local terror outfit Tahree-e-Ghalba-e-Islam.
The other suspects killed in the encounter included Syed Amjad, Md Haneef, Md Zakir and Izhar Khan.
The police van was stopped on the highway to help people answer nature's call. Then Viqaruddin tried to overpower the police personnel and snatched a weapon from a Reserve Sub-Inspector after injuring him, according to Warangal DIG Malla Reddy. Consequently, the security personnel fired, killing all five suspects in the police van itself.
The state government has ordered a magisterial and judicial enquiry into the encounter, as per the directions of the Supreme Court.
DGP Anurag Sharma too assured that that the police would follow the due judicial process for the enquiry. (INN)
