MP and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi today said that the fight would be between the Congress and the TRS in the next Assembly elections in 2023.
Addressing the party's Telangana leaders in Gandhi Bhavan today, Gandhi said that though Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had police and money power, he did not have the support of the people behind him.
He said that the dreams of Congress president Sonia Gandhi were not fulfilled even eight years after the creation of Telangana State, and that the family of the Chief Minister had looted the State completely.
"The people of the State did not get any justice in education, health or employment. The responsibility of protecting the State from KCR's family now lies on the shoulders of the Congress leaders. You need to transform Telangana into a role model for the country," Gandhi said.
He also said that the youth should come forward in the fight against the TRS, and that the ouster of the KCR government was the responsibility of both the Congress and the youth.
Stating that Friday's farmers' protest at Warangal was a grand success due to the collective efforts of the party leaders, he thanked all of them for working hard.
He also said that the party would not form a feudal government in Telangana after the next Assembly elections, and that tickets would be given only to those whose work had merit, and who played key roles in agitations for the welfare of the farmers and the other people, irrespective of their seniority in the party. Those who simply frequented Delhi would not get the tickets, he asserted, and exhorted the party leaders to visit the villages frequently and help the people, if they wanted the party tickets.
The party would also conduct personal surveys of the aspirants and allot tickets to them on the basis of the findings of the survey, he said.
He added that it was common for the party leaders in a State to have differences among themselves, and asked the leaders to talk to him directly if they had any problems, and not approach the media.
Gandhi also called upon the party leaders to give wide promotion to the Warangal Declaration by conveying the main promises made, to the farmers and other people in the State. He termed the Warangal Declaration as an agreement between the Congress and the people of the State.
He also told the party workers that he would visit the State any number of times to boost their morale.
