Handlooms and Textiles Minister Dr. P Shankar Rao on Monday appealed to Telangana groups to exempt educational institutions from the ongoing Sakala Janula Samme, the general strike for Telangana.
Talking to media persons, Shankar Rao said that lakhs of students have been put to hardship due to the continuous shutdown of schools, colleges and other institutions. In several institutions, the syllabus could not be completed due to the loss of working days, he said.
Therefore, all education institutions be exempted from the strike, he appealed to the Telangana Joint Action Committee and other groups.
Regarding the 3-day rail roko starting from 12 October, the Minister said that lakhs of passengers would suffer due to the agitation.
He said a day-long protest could have been tolerated by the general public, but protests for a longer duration would tarnish the image of the Telangana agitation among people, he said.
Shankar Rao said that the Centre was trying to find an early solution to the Telangana issue, and that therefore, all pro-Telangana groups must soften their agitation. (INN)
