The Telangana government today presented the Dasharathi Krishnamacharya award to well-known literary personality and former Telugu University Vice Chancellor Elluri Shiva Reddy.
At a program held in Ravindra Bharati, that was attended by government advisor K V Ramana Chary and other prominent government officials and public representatives, Tourism and Culture Minister V Srinivas Goud felicitated Reddy with the prestigious award and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
On receiving the prize, the former VC thanked the government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for the honour.
Later, Goud said, "It was an honour for me to honour such a noted personality in the field of literature. Our government presents this honour to those who make outstanding contributions to the field. Elluri Shiva Reddy is one such person. He has worked in the field for years."
A selection committee had decided that the Dasharathi Krishnamacharya award for the year would be given to Reddy for his services to the field of literature and education.
The award is given to those who make exceptional contributions to the world of Telugu literature. It is presented on July 22 every year since 2015 to mark the birth anniversary of popular poet Dasharathi Krishnamacharya, after who the award is named.
Poet Thirumala Srinivasacharya received the award in 2015 while J Bapu Reddy received it in 2016, Acharya N Gopi in 2017, Vajjhala Shivakumar in 2018, Dr Kurella Vittalacharya in 2019 and Dr Thirunagari Ramanujaiah in 2020.
