Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas on Thursday hinted that he is in the fray as a candidate for the Nizamabad Urban Assembly constituency in the forthcoming by-elections to 10 seats scheduled to be held on July 27.
Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Srinivas said that the people of his constituency want him to serve them and see him as a cabinet minister.
He further said that he can work much more for the welfare of the people if he becomes a cabinet minister. He denied that he was interested in becoming the CM, and said it was his life-long ambition to become the PCC president and that he has had 2 successful stints at the job.
Giving details of his meeting with Chief Minister K Rosaiah earlier in the day, Srinivas said that he and Rosaiah discussed the candidates and the party's campaign for the forthcoming by-polls.
He further said he would meet people from the constituencies going to polls, including the in-charge ministers, MPs, MLAs and the possible candidates, on Friday. After this meeting, the list of possible candidates will be sent to the party High Command for approval within two days.
The PCC president emphasised that only candidates with the best chances of winning will be selected.
He expressed confidence that the party will win all the ten seats.
Asked if the party sees any other party as its main competitor, the PCC chief said that the party treats all other parties as it rivals.
When questioned if the party has any star campaigner, the PCC chief said that the party has a 125-year history and that it knows who to choose as its star campaigner and when to do so.
Turning his attention to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Srinivas said that TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and Telangana ideologue Professor Kodandaram were both aware of how much he had fought for the sake of a separate Telangana. He also said he wondered whether the TRS has the werewithal to turn the Telangana statehood dream into a reality.
